About Hatton Veterinary Hospital

We would like to pay tribute to the founder of Hatton Veterinary Hospital, our mentor, and our leader, the late Dr. Peter Hatton. We will always uphold his ideals of honesty and integrity as we continue to serve our clients. He will never be forgotten.

Peter Lloyd Hatton, Jr. passed away peacefully at home with his wife and daughter on Thursday, February 17th, 2022. Peter was born October 12th, 1943 to the late Peter Hatton, Sr. and Virginia Hatton. Devoted husband of 58 years to Elizabeth, brother to Chris (Hank) Myers, Joy (Norm) Schmiedt, and Doug (Margie) Hatton, father of Teresa (Michael) Murray, Grandfather of Matthew (Clarissa) Hernandez and Grayson (Courtney) Adams, and Great Grandfather to Eli, Gabe, Harper, and Hudsynn.

In 1961 Peter graduated from Carmel High School in California, followed by three years of service in the United States Navy, where he met the love of his life, Elizabeth. They were married in a little chapel on Treasure Island on April Fool’s Day, 1964. Peter and Liz brought their only child into the world, Teresa, on Peter’s 21st birthday. Peter graduated from UC Davis Veterinary School in 1972 and began practicing veterinary medicine in North Highlands, CA. He laid roots for his family by building their dream home on the levee of the Sacramento River in the Little Pocket area of South Sacramento. Peter continued his love for the building when he designed and built Greenhaven Veterinary Hospital and later Hatton Veterinary Hospital which both still operate and serve their communities today. When not treating his four-legged friends, Peter enjoyed sailing, fishing, woodworking in his shop, winemaking in his garage, and sitting with Liz on the rear deck of their beloved Delta home overlooking the river and their favorite beach. After retiring, Peter and Liz moved to the Lowcountry (Bluffton, South Carolina) to be near their daughter, grandson, and great-grandchildren.

Peter was a strong, hardworking man whose devotion to medicine was only eclipsed by his love for his family and friends. His ability to positively influence and help those around him led to several lifelong friendships. Peter loved the water and regularly could be found sailing, diving, and fishing at destinations all over the world. From beer-can sailboat races on Rosanna Danna to sipping wine on the Witchcraft, he was always at peace on the water. He engrained his passion for fishing in both Teresa and Grayson, which lead to a lifetime of great memories and amazing fish tales. Peter also loved camping at Van Damme State Park in Northern California, where for decades he dove for abalone and spent precious time with his family and close friends.
